What is Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS)?
LCoS is a display technology that uses liquid crystals sandwiched between two layers of glass or a similar substrate. The key difference between LCoS and traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs) is the way the liquid crystals are activated. In LCoS, the liquid crystals are placed on a silicon backing that has a reflective coating, allowing the device to project the image. This technology combines the principles of liquid crystal displays and digital light processing (DLP), which is why it's sometimes referred to as a reflection-based LCD.
How LCoS Works
LCoS displays utilize a light source (often LEDs, Lasers, or Xenon lamps) that shines light through a liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystals control the amount of light that passes through based on their alignment, which is modulated by an electrical signal. The light that is not blocked by the liquid crystals is reflected back towards the viewer, creating a bright, colorful image.
An LCoS projector typically uses multiple panels, one for each primary color (red, green, and blue). By modulating the light levels of these color panels and combining them, LCoS can create full-color, high-resolution images.

Wide Viewing Angles – LCoS displays maintain color accuracy and sharpness at wider angles, which is crucial for applications such as home theaters or public displays.
Low Power Consumption – LCoS technology is more energy-efficient than some other projection technologies, particularly when coupled with LED or laser light sources.
